HOW TO MAKE DOUGHNUTS... WHOLE WHEAT & ENRICHED WITH FLAX

This has got to be adoughnut lovers dream or even a police ooficers second dream... lol this is such a healthy way to enjoy the snack that everyone loves.



Ingredients:
5 cups whole wheat flour(or half/half whole wheat/all purpose)
2/3 cup ground flax seeds (meal)
1 TBSP salt
1/4 cup  sugar
1/2 cup vegetable shortening(non hydrogenated spectrum) or coconut oil( solid form)
4 cups(or less) water lukewarm
1 packet of yeast

Directions:
Treat is as you would treat bakes, work the shortening into the flour, then add the yeasty water. Knead until the dough forms into a nice shiny ball ( about 5 min). Let rest for 45 min. Then part it into small pieces, roll them into balls then press gently with fingers into rounds..let rest again on parchment paper for another 15 min. Fry in sunflower oil. Watch them, they take about a minute to fry on one side, it's easy to burn them. Ice them with icing of your preference, I used powdered sugar and almond milk, flavored with vanilla. Enjoy!
